MINI SUMMER VACATION - PLAN B

Despite the fact that our original plans for a short weekend getaway went up in smoke, we decided to go with Plan B. We packed our swimsuits and met up with friends for a "staycation" right here in town.

A beautiful resort down the road in Scottsdale.

And then the Smith's arrived......

Grayson welcomes the guests with a moon.

The clocktower is also a three-story tall waterslide.

Which Marley went down about 50 times.

The beach - Arizona style.

Grayson and Mom play, while a headless lady in a bikini strolls by.

We liked to play under the waterfall.

Time for a break and snack.

WILDFIRE = NO VACATION IN THE MOUNTAINS FOR THE SMITH'S

Back in December 2010 we decided it would be neat to plan a summer family getaway - when it was 110+ degrees around our place in June we would travel 4 hours northeast into the mountains where it was 30 degrees cooler and stay in a log cabin next to a lake....it was a good idea at the time, but then half of the state of Arizona caught on fire and our vacation went up in smoke. So tune in sometime in the fall to see some great pictures of the Smith Family Summer Vacation in Greer, AZ (take II).

MIGHTY MUD MANIA

Saturday we took the kids to the Mighty Mud Mania Event to enjoy the 100+ degree heat while covered in mud.

(I stole this from the City of Scottsdale website)
Mighty Mud Mania 2011

Saturday June 11, 2011

"Mighty Mud Mania" began in 1976 as the "Shout It Out Decathlon," a promotional gimmick for Johnson's Wax "Shout" Spray pre-wash. The activity was held in Chaparral Park in Scottsdale and the Johnson's Wax Company provided 300 white t-shirts for the participants. Johnson's dropped the program because our Arizona mud was too tough for the pre-wash. However, the City of Scottsdale felt the activity was so successful, that our Parks and Recreation Division incorporated the event into the summer recreation program. Re-named "Mighty Mud Mania," the activity has been held since then as the culminating activity of all the Scottsdale Parks and Recreation summer programs.

These next couple of pictures were actually taken on Friday, aka "water day"at daycare.
